The Final Flight
is a mixed-media animated short combining traditional frame-by-frame animation with vector motion graphics. The film follows the journey of a lone spirit bird struggling to survive in a corrupted, withered world.
The project was directed, illustrated, and animated by David Kativu and co-written by David Kativu and Jeff Shermack, featuring an original musical score composed by Patrick Zelinski, co-written and performed by Patrick Zelinski and David Kativu. Production combined digital painting in Adobe Photoshop, frame-by-frame animation in Adobe Animate, and motion graphics in Adobe After Effects.
The Final Flight was nominated for the Giraf Animation Festival (2021), the Dawson City Film Festival, and the Halifax Animation Festival.
